As I prepare to apply for naturalization on the basis of 5 years’ residency (UK National who has lived in two other European countries), could anyone who has been through the process please tell me whether their ACRO/ police certificates needed an apostille? I’m hearing conflicting reports and even the IRN did not seem sure. Thanks.

If you need a regular police registration as a foreigner, you just bring your certificate and proof of address. If you are applying for naturalization already, then you need an apostille.

When I applied, I had to get one for my birth certificate, which was pretty straightforward – just needed to send the original or a certified replacement, no photocopies or e-apostilles allowed for UK documents. I used apostille for a birth certificate, which I found at ***** , and they handled it all quickly, which was a relief given all the other paperwork involved.

***** play a crucial role in the naturalization process, particularly when it comes to police certificates. An apostille is often required for these documents, verifying their authenticity for international use. It’s essential to understand the steps involved in obtaining an apostille, as this ensures your police certificates are accepted during the naturalization process. By providing clear guidelines and resources, organizations can support individuals seeking citizenship and streamline their journey.
