The forum came right when I started on TR. I had great times here and learned a lot. There were no outside workouts, cool down/warmup extension, plan builder, and hundreds of podcast episodes less.

Now I was recently reminded of an old discussion and thought to throw some of my favorite threads together.

Do you have a favorite yourself?

Curious as to what Mantras (or other thoughts/techniques) people use for training, racing, keeping focus, or getting through that difficult interval/workout etc. I’ve seen a few mentioned recently - and it would be nice to collect some new/old/well used ones for reference or inspiration. Feedback appreciated.
Listening to the podcast and reading various articles there seems to be a consensus that your ultimate peak FTP is based on your own physiological limits. Just wondering what the science behind this is? It would be good to work out my own personal upper limit. But also to set realistic training goals. I currently am 27 and about 3W/kg and 58kg. I would love to get to 4W/kg but is that realistic? I guess its down to hard work and commitment but I could never get to 6W/kg for example Any advice …
Some time ago, @chad was experimenting with a few weeks of intense workouts to get a boost on his FTP before going into the base/build/specialty bit. While he mentioned it worked for him, I have not seen anything on the plan option. I am thinking of doing such a thing – 3-6 weeks of perhaps high intensity to get my FTP boosted. THEN go into base/build/specialty. Doing so now will let me do a run-focused period later this winter. I can do SS work and run hard – but I cannot do high intensity…
I started an experiment a couple weeks ago based on an actual lab experiment – sugar water vs ubiquitous sports drink. I’ve been taking in anywhere from 75-100g/hr of liquid carbs and the effects are astounding. I know, “Duh!”, but going from thinking I was fueling with enough carbs to actually fueling with enough carbs…I fear no interval! No bonk in sight and the RPE is crazy low. Now if I could only go back and tell my racing twentysomething self to carb the F up! Now back to your regularly s…
As dry January comes to a close I noticed someone mentioned Sugar Free February. I checked to see if there was a post for it but couldn’t find anything so here it is. Who’s up for Sugar Free February then?
I decided to cut it out December 29th rather than January 1st. No BS I was drinking too much in general and far too much to race my bike effectively. I read another thread elsewhere and the author said something like “ask yourself why you drink”? That was enough. I didn’t have an answer so it just seems logical to stop. Maybe posting here will inspire others and keep me honest. Anyone else?

That forum brings back some nostalgic memories! I remember starting out on TR back when things were simpler. It's amazing how much it's evolved since then—now with features like outside workouts and podcast episodes galore. One of my favorite threads was about *****. It reminded me of a great experience I had with a trainer there. They really helped me get back on track after a long break from fitness.
